ABOUT US

Who We Are

The Essex & Community Historical Research Society is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to documenting and preserving the rich history of Essex and surrounding communities within Essex County.


We are the only historical society in Southwestern Ontario that creates local family trees from start to finish.


Our Vision is a community where evidence of the past will continue to be preserved for future generations at the Essex Carnegie Library.

Our Mission

ECHRS is dedicated to preparing, preserving, and protecting public access to artifacts and documents that reflect the rich history of Essex County.


ECHRS also aims to encourage and assist with genealogical research in the area.

The History of ECHRS

The Essex & Community Historical Research Society has been a local not-for-profit for 17 years. Housed in Essex's old Carnegie Library, we are dedicated to preserveing and protecting the history of our local community. We maintain a variety of documents, pictures, and stories about, from and by the community of Essex and surrounding areas.


 The Carnegie Library at 18 Gordon Ave. in Essex was designed by Crane & Pennington in 1912 and is a protected heritage building with the Town of Essex.
